What is WhyFun?
WhyFun is an initiative designed to help people recognize and respond to high-pressure moments before they escalate into conflict or lasting damage.
At the center of this effort is the FUN Signal
a simple, shared signal that communicates one clear intent: when pressure is present, we pause before escalating and try to preserve the possibility of repair.
The signal doesn’t force agreement or guarantee outcomes. Instead, it makes the intention to slow down visible, helping people move through tension with greater awareness, care, and responsibility.

Darren Nielson is the founder of WhyFun (Finding Unity Naturally) and Executive Director of FUN.NGO, an initiative dedicated to helping people navigate disagreement and high-pressure moments with greater awareness and care.
After more than 30 years in corporate leadership roles across multiple industries, Darren saw firsthand how quickly tension and misunderstanding can escalate inside teams, organizations, and communities.
Motivated by a desire to help people respond to those moments differently, he developed the Finding Unity Naturally framework and the FUN Signal, a simple way to encourage pause, responsibility, and the possibility of repair when pressure arises.
Darren is also the author of Mining for FUN in the Neighborhood – What Mr. Rogers Taught (and We Forgot) About Finding Unity Naturally, and he continues to advocate for practical tools that help people strengthen relationships despite their differences.

What exactly is FUNFest?
FUNFest is a one-of-a-kind gathering where laughter, legacy, and reconnection come together. Think part reunion, part celebration, part launch party for a better future, all wrapped in a spirit of joy and unity.
Who is it for?
It's for families, friends, former ward members, and anyone who's been part of our story. Whether we're related by blood, faith, or shared memories, if you've received this invite, you're part of the family.
Where and when is it?
Location: Marriott Hotel, Provo, Utah
Date: Saturday, September 27, 2025
Time: 4:30 to 7:30 PM. Doors open at 4:00 and we have the space for visiting until 9:00 PM.
What should we expect?
Dinner, stories, music, and surprises. A warm welcome and message from Darren. Special guests including Thurl Bailey and James Perry from Studio C. The first public unveiling of WhyFUN: Finding Unity Naturally. Meaningful moments, light games, and a few raffle prizes.
How much does it cost?
We're asking for a suggested donation of $60 per person to help cover dinner and event costs. But truly, come if you can and pay what you can. The real goal is to reconnect and be together again.
Can we bring kids?
Yes. We love kids. The main event is geared toward adults and teens but younger children are welcome, especially if they're comfortable in a seated dinner setting. For those little ones who might get restless, we'll have a nearby FUN Zone, a dedicated space with coloring, games, and a movie playing.
What should we wear?
Dress nicely but no need to go full formal. Think Sunday best meets family reunion. Comfortable, presentable, and FUN.
